Career exploration with Aurora

 

In an innovative approach to preparing graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to adapt to a post-pandemic job market, the College of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies has partnered with Beyond the Professoriate and is offering free access to the Aurora career-exploration platform.

What can Aurora do for you?

Leaving academia can feel like a big, mysterious step into the unknown. After years of being successful in academia, it can be daunting and overwhelming to launch a professional job search. The Aurora job market and professional careers online exploration and planning tool offers 2 programs of study to help students learn successful job search strategies: 

  1. the Academic Careers Pathway program
  2. the Professional Careers Pathway program

All USask Aurora users have access to a one-of-a-kind video library where students can watch interviews with PhDs working in all sectors: academia, government, higher education administration, industry, and non-profits as well as all access to Beyond the Professoriate events and platform support.

Learn how to launch a successful non-faculty job search. Video seminars are taught by PhD experts working beyond the professoriate. Topics include career exploration, hiring and negotiating, and online job search strategies. Learning prompts will help students apply this new knowledge to their own job search. 

 Faculty Careers

Learn how to launch a successful faculty job search. Video seminars are taught by PhD experts working in graduate schools and university career centers. Topics include CV and cover letter writing, interviewing, and negotiating job offers. Learning prompts will help students apply this new knowledge to their own job search.

Supports career exploration and promotes engaged learning through reflective activities that encourage students to apply what they’ve learned.

Provides accessible, well-curated resources for busy graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Compliments the Grad Hub's innovative way of wraparound support in a thematic and synthesized way that users can easily engage with, regardless of where they may be geographically, personally, or professionally.

PhD Career Interviews

These short videos are organized by broad discipline: humanities, social sciences, biomedical sciences, and STEM.  Learn about an interviewee’s specific career, important information about the job search process, and the skills non-academic employers’ value in job candidates.  

PhD Career Panels

In these one-hour seminars, PhD experts teach students about career fields in both the private and the public sectors. These focused spotlights provide the opportunity to explore what it takes to be successful in a specific career.
