Martha Smith PhD Interim Associate Dean

Dr. Martha Smith earned her PhD from the University of Toronto and is a professor in the Department of History. She is the author of Domination and Resistance: The United States and the Marshall Islands during the Cold War (University of Hawaii Press, 2016). Her current research is a study of the relationship between nuclear weapons proliferation, the nation state, and the environment. As the Interim Associate Dean, she has a large portfolio, which includes responding to the concerns of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, providing leadership in the development and revision of policies and procedures, supporting the creation and implementation of new courses and programs, working with administrative staff to improve the quality of day-to-day operations, and serving on numerous standing committees at the college and university levels.
